IN PRAISE OF THE CROCUS
The pastel cultivars
emerge from their
underground
swollen corms
like chalices,
offering us communion
with the natural world.

You wrote this with one arm and it's this good? Wow!
Beautiful...These offerings poking through the snow touch my heart...as does your poem
Linda
me too... one of the belles of amherst again.....
Beautiful pic (Nice shoes too :D). They deserve the high praise you've given them.
Hope your arm is better now. Take care, Kaye.
Mom, your poem does justice to this unfailing sign of Spring, the crocus. (They deserve their own poem!) I love when they stick up out of the snow. Whether you meant it this way or not, I love how "communion" is indicative of the upcoming holiday season. (More on that via phone...)
Simple and striking at the same time.
I love the image of the chalice and communion. I have a line in a current poem about grace that mentions a cup and the world. I wish I'd said chalice now! It's such a better word!
Deceptively simple yet beautiful tribute.
this is perfect symbiotic symbolism - and i love the boots in the photo - it's celebratory and reverent at the same time.
will be sending all warm wishes this month for a successful surgery!
I've always loved seeing crocuses push up through the hard soil, and now I will even more so. There's such a humility to their size, and yet they seem to open up an entire world again.
I, too, loved the symbolism of the chalice. Perfect. :)
I hope you're well, Kay.
Excellent! They really do deserve our respect and love, dragging spring up from the ground with them. Love your portrayal.
The chalice metaphor is so apt here; there is so much wit and inspiration in the observer. ;)
I've read the comment thread here, and wondered then worried then fretted over your arm's condition. (I've been M.I.A. for a long while.) Then I read in the comment thread for the previous post about your surgery late this month. My prayers are with you, K. Please be well.
Hello - and thanks so much to all. I value your comments here more than I can say. I look forward to the time that I can return to blogging...both reading your postings and commenting - and posting my own. My surgery is scheduled for Wednesday, April 28. I'll have some recovery time and maybe a little rehab. Then, I hope to see you all again soon after. I appreciate all the well wishes. You are such good folks! Love, K
Love the picture you chose for the beautiful poem...it is perfect. :-)
Carrie - how sweet of you...thank you.
Just thinking about you, Kay. I hope your recovery is going well.
Your presence and poems are missed. :)
Sarah, my recovery is going well. Therapy has helped so much. I miss being here amongst you beautiful souls. I do appreciate your concern, friend. Blessings...
